Anul 2012 va fi dedicat planetei Barsoom şi lui Edgar Rice Burroughs prin filmul „John Carter” al regizorului Andrew Stanton (lansarea va fi pe data de 9 martie 2012. Scenariul filmulului este bazat pe povestea lui John Carter, un personaj din romanul lui  Edgar Rice Burroughs, „A Princess of Mars”, din 1912 şi publicat pentru prima dată în volum în 1917) precum şi prin antologia „Under the Moons of Mars : New Adventures on Barsoom” editată de John Joseph Adams , un omagiu adus operelor clasice ale lui Edgar Rice Burroughs. Antologia conţine următoarele texte : 1.”The Metal Men of Mars” by Joe R. Lansdale ; 2.”Three Deaths” – David Barr Kirtley ; 3.”The Ape-Man of Mars” – Peter S. Beagle ; 4.”A Tinker of Warhoon” – Tobias S. Buckell ; 5.”Vengeance of Mars” – Robin Wasserman 6.”Woola’s Song” – Theodora Goss ; 7.”The River Gods of Mars” – Austin Grossman 8.”The Bronze Man of Mars” – L. E. Modesitt, Jr. ; 9.”A Game of Mars” – Genevieve Valentine ; 10.”Sidekick of Mars” – Garth Nix ; 11.”The Ghost of the Superstition Mountains” – Chris Claremont ; 12.”The Jasoom Project” – S. M. Stirling; 13.”Coming of Age in Barsoom” – Catherynne M. Valente ; 14.”The Death Song of Dwar Guntha” – Jonathan Maberry. La editura McFarland, S.U.A.  a apărut volumul de studii critice „Visions of Mars: Essays on the Red Planet in Fiction and Science”, editat de Howard V.Hendrix, George Slusser şi Eric S. Rabkin.
